SIOX-5 RE36

Water-repellent protective coating for artistic glass and glazed ceramics

DESCRIPTION

SIOX-5 RE36 is a water repellent protective coating based on sol-gel technology developed by the Group of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage at the University of Padua, Italy (Patent n. 0001370467   Synthesis of silica protective films by tin-catalized sol-gel process).

HOW IT WORKS

The product contains nanostructured silica gel. Once applied it forms a layer of amorphous silica thin, colorless, transparent, compatible with the substrate. The treatment is able to reduce the roughness of glass surfaces (blown glass and glazing of ceramics) resulting in an  increase of the resistance to chemical and physical attack and of the natural water resistance of the material.

WHERE

Stained-glass windows
Glazed ceramics
Glass mosaics

ADVANTAGES

Neutral appearance
High degree of water repellency
High degree of transpirability
Fast activation
Compatibility with silicate substrates
Resistance to UV irradiation
Resistance to urban acid pollutants
Reversibility / Possibility of re-applying
Non-toxic
