SIOX-5 RE16C

Protective sealant for ceramic glazes

DESCRIPTION

SIOX-5 RE16C is a water-repellent protective sealant for ceramic glazes based on sol-gel technology developed by the Group of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage of the Department of Chemical Sciences of the University of Padua (Patent No. 0001370467 of the University of Padua).

HOW IT WORKS

The product contains a highly concentrated nanostructured and functionalised silica gel. Once applied to the surface, the liquid forms a thin, colourless, transparent, substrate-compatible layer of amorphous silica that binds to glass and seals micro-cracks (craquelure) the ceramic mixture becomes water repellent preventing the penetration of dirt, impurities, salts and biodeteriogens. Particularly suitable for restoring opaque glazes
